The International Symposium for Cardiac Care
A teleconference training series in collaboration with the World Heart Foundation (WHF) and the World Bank Global Development Learning Network (GDLN)
The VinaCapital Foundation sponsors the International Symposium for Cardiac Care, a series of training conferences to improve capacity for cardiac care and cardiac surgery in Vietnam and other Asian countries. In December 2008 the program was accepted as a “Clinton Global Initiative” and praised by former President Clinton during a Clinton Global Initiative meeting in Hong Kong as a model health program “which should be replicated” across the world.
This program could not be possible without our partners:
•The World Heart Foundation, an association of the world’s best cardio-thoracic surgeons and non-profit affiliates working to improve access to cardiac care around the world
•The World Bank Global Development Learning Network, a group of over 100 state-of-the-art video conference centers in developing countries
This regional program links surgeons and doctors involved in cardiac care in developing countries with the world’s best in cardio-thoracic surgery, cardiology, and pediatric cardiac care during three series of symposia.
The telemedicine series allows doctors from all over Vietnam to congregate in teleconferencing centers in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Danang, and Hue for a series of lectures by exemplary leaders in the field of cardio-thoracic surgery. The lectures are interactive, enabling participants to ask questions after the presentation.
Learning centers in Indonesia, Cambodia, China, Ukraine, and Bangladesh are also connected interactively, and the lectures are then compiled by World Bank into a DVD learning series and distributed by World Heart Foundation to surgical programs in developing countries around the world.
The World Bank Global Development Center in Hanoi coordinates the lectures via the World Bank Center in Tokyo. Simultaneous translation is available and the lectures and Q&A sessions are recorded. The sessions are also available as free live webcasts in which surgeons anywhere in the world can participate. The lectures are then compiled by World Bank into a DVD learning series and distributed by World Heart Foundation to surgical programs in developing countries around the world.
Each session will reach over 150 doctors in Vietnam and over 200 doctors regionally, plus an unlimited number in other countries through the webcasts, recordings, and downloads. Corporate donors will receive branding recognition for their sponsorship in the program, including on the invitation, during each broadcast’s opening remarks of the session, on screen during the reception and coffee breaks, and on the permanent recordings.
A $5,000 donation will cover the expenses of one session in Vietnam and Asia. A major sponsor paying $50,000 will support a year of broadcasts and receive significant publicity for the partnership with VCF.
